It’s been said all dogs go to heaven, but half a dozen pups made extra sure by barking out a few prayers inside a Norfolk County church over the weekend.

Christ Church Vittoria — a historic chapel in the village west of Port Dover — held a blessing of the animals on Saturday to mark the Feast of St. Francis, a modest saint who was more at home among animals than other people, noted Rev. Leah Arvidsson.

“Our pets show us what a full life looks like, with no worries at all,” said Arvidsson, her sermon punctuated by howls from the puppies in the pews.
