A Lake Orion woman who went on a binge of striking pedestrians with her vehicle in a series of incidents Oakland and Macomb counties last month during a mental-health crisis has been referred for a mental competency evaluation, according to the Macomb prosecutor.

Judge Suzanne Faunce of 37th District Court in Warren ordered Tuesday that Rachele Marie Ricklefs, 30, undergo an assessment to determine whether she understands the charges against her and can assist in her defense.

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido said in a news release, “Before the case can proceed, the court must determine whether the defendant is competent to stand trial. Our office respects that process, but our commitment to seeking justice remains unwavering.”
