Mizoram’s opposition party, Mizo National Front (MNF) has called for a state-wide bandh on October 29 to protest the State Government’s decision to adopt the Forest Conservation Amendment Act (FCAA), 2023, arguing that it poses a threat to the state’s land and forest autonomy.

The decision came during the MNF National Executive Meeting that was presided over by party president and former Chief Minister Zoramthanga. He criticised the ruling ZPM government for passing the FCAA, calling the move “unacceptable” and a violation of Mizoram’s special safeguards under Article 371(G) and the spirit of the historic Mizoram Peace Accord.
