DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Family members of a 20-year-old Durham man killed in a shooting last week are pleading with the community to stop the violence.

Tikeon Holloway was shot and killed on September 30 in a neighborhood on Lathrop Street. This week, his aunt showed CBS 17 the tattoo she just got in her nephew's honor.

"We're trying to understand why it continues to happen," Sieda Evans said. "If you see so many mothers' hearts broken, why allow it to continue to happen? For us, we don't understand. And the only thing we can do is pray and just ask everybody just stop."

Similar incidents of gun violence are taking a toll on families across Durham.

Police statistics show 25 people have been shot and killed so far this year, compared to 24 last year and 32 in 2023.
