Peel residents are being encouraged to take part in two citizen science projects aimed at protecting some of Mandurah’s most vulnerable wildlife.

Led by Wirambi Landcare and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, these tallies offer a unique opportunity to contribute to vital conservation efforts of the western ringtail possum and research trapdoor spider.

The western ringtail possum is a critically endangered species at serious risk of extinction in the wild due to ongoing habitat loss from urban development and mining.

The population is especially facing serious declines in areas such as Dawesville, Bouvard and Herron.

People who spot either species in backyards, bushland or parks are urged to take a photo and log their sighting on the iNaturalist app or online
