CHELSEA, MI — Voters in the Chelsea Area Fire Authority’s coverage area will decide at the polls Nov. 4 whether to increase an existing property tax levy.

The fire authority, which serves Chelsea and Lima, Lyndon, and Sylvan townships, is asking voters to approve a .75-mill increase to the existing approximately 2.3-mill rate. If approved, the increase would expire in 2028, at the same time as the existing millage.

“Although CAFA has done a good job of keeping costs down, expenses have increased since 2019, our operating budget has not changed, and the landscape of emergency services has changed in Washtenaw County,” fire authority officials said in a brochure on the proposed millage increase .
