BATH BEACH — ASSEMBLYMEMBER WILLIAM COLTON, D-47, presented a special recognition to a young man who has persevered through life-threatening obstacles to achieve a career in journalism. Christopher Alvarez, 28, a news reporter, was born with Thanatophoric Dysplasia, a skeletal disorder and rare genetic condition that limited his growth to that of a 15-month-old child. Doctors had predicted that he would die young.
Alvarez credits his loving and tenacious family for standing with him. A graduate of Columbia Journalism School, Alvarez writes about issues affecting people with disabilities and does celebrity interviews. He is also a filmmaker.
Colton presented Alvarez with a proclamation“thank[ing] him for his service as a New York City-based bilingual journalist, filmmaker and disability
