BOSTON (WWLP) - Joan Bennett Kennedy, a classical pianist and advocate for mental health and addiction services, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Boston on Wednesday at the age of 89.

Mrs. Kennedy was the former wife of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy and was married to him for 24 years, according to MassDems. She was the mother of their three children, Kara, Ted Jr., and Patrick. She is known for her musical talent and often played the piano at political rallies during her time with the Kennedy family.

Joan Bennett Kennedy's life took a dramatic turn when she married Ted Kennedy in 1958, becoming part of the prominent Kennedy political dynasty. By 1962, she was the youngest wife of the youngest U.S. Senator ever elected.
