It’s good to be Toronto banker Douglas Guzman.

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s candidate to oversee defence contracting is now cabinet’s highest-paid appointee, reports _Blacklock’s Reporter_.

Guzman, a former associate of Carney’s, is getting twice the finance minister’s pay, raking in $679,100 a year.

Guzman and Carney were formerly business associates at Goldman Sachs.

The new division of the Department of Public Works was created by Carney to “overhaul and bolster” military contracting.

“I am proud to have the opportunity to serve Canada at this important time,” Guzman said after his Oct. 2 appointment as CEO of the Defence Investment Agency.
