LANSING, MI - Tucked inside the 1,000-plus page state budget for the 2025-26 is a “game-changing investment” in young mothers.

Rx Kids - a program providing prenatal and infant support to expecting and new mothers - received $270 million in funding to expand to more areas across Michigan.

It’s part of the government nearly $80 billion state budget that was approved early in the morning on Friday, Oct. 3, and signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Pediatrician Dr. Mona Hanna, Rx Kids founder and associate dean of Michigan State University’s (MSU) College of Human Medicine, said the approval shows lawmakers on both sides of the aisle recognize “how hard this window of life is.”
