RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - Sports betting in North Carolina paid out big after the first full month of football season.
The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has released the sports betting revenue report for September. It was the first full month of the football season.
According to the report, North Carolinians wagered $686,064,471 on sports betting, which includes paid and promotional wagers. From those wagers, players won back a total of $615,147,457.
The state says an 18% tax will be levied on the gross of the wagering revenue. It expects to collect $12,017,496 from those taxes.
