Organizers of Fiery Faces put out their annual call for pumpkin carvers to help fill the Petrolia Discovery’s Boom Town with jack-o’-lanterns.

Fiery Faces is a community event of the Kiwanis Club of Petrolia and Area that grew out a local carved pumpkin display Cheryl Veary began about 15 years ago. It was inspired by a New York State event known as the Great Jack-o’-lantern Blaze.

This will be the fourth year since Fiery Faces moved to Petrolia and became an event with the Kiwanis Club.

Last year, “we managed to get 650 pumpkins lit, which broke our record of 500,” Veary said.

“It’s catching on,” she said. “Hopefully, we just keep growing.”

Carved pumpkins will be displayed Oct. 17 to 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Discovery. There will also be a Family Day on Oc
