Bryan Rust returned to practice for the Penguins on Wednesday after the 33-year-old winger was injured a week ago.
The Penguins had announced he would miss at least two weeks with a lower-body injury, but he was a full participant in Cranberry a week after the injury.
When he’ll return to play is not clear. Coach Dan Muse called it “a good step in the right direction” Wednesday, a day after the team collected a 3-0 season-opening win against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
“We’ll continue to reevaluate after each step is taken,” Muse said. “For right now, that’s all I’d be able to update is that he practiced with the team, it was a good step and we’ll go from there.”
The Penguins will play their home opener against the Islanders at 7 p.m. Thursday.
