Union members rallied Wednesday outside a closed hospital near Pittsburgh, where weeds grow from sidewalk cracks and a medical clinic across the street is to be shuttered in December.

About two dozen members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, from as far away as Harrisburg, called on Allegheny Health Network corporate parent Highmark Health to keep open AHN’s United Physicians’ primary care clinic across from the hulking Citizens General Hospital, which closed 25 years ago and where some windows are covered with plywood.

Teamsters Union Local 30 President Gino Bosetti said Highmark made the decision to close the New Kensington clinic in September “under very questionable circumstances” and within days of the union winning an election to represent 14 of the office’s nurses, he
