Blast in Kanpur Market Injures Eight, Investigation Launched

A powerful explosion in Kanpur's Mestern Road area on Wednesday evening injured eight people, including a woman. The incident occurred around 7:15 PM in the Mishri Bazaar, where two parked scooters exploded, causing panic among locals and shopkeepers.

Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Ashutosh Kumar confirmed that all injured individuals were taken to Ursula Hospital for treatment. While two of them were discharged after receiving first aid, four sustained serious burn injuries, and two others suffered minor injuries.

Eyewitnesses reported a loud bang that shook the busy market, leading to chaos as people rushed to safety. The explosion also damaged nearby vehicles and shattered windows of adjacent buildings. Police and forensic teams quickly cordoned off the area to collect evidence and assess the damage.

Kumar stated, "Our forensic team is present at the scene, and we are investigating what could be the cause of this. We have traced the scooter, and inquiries will also be made with those who were riding it. Whether this is an accident or a conspiracy will only be known later."

Authorities are working closely with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to determine the cause of the blast. Investigators are examining whether the explosion was due to a mechanical fault, a gas leak, or any suspicious materials.

Senior officials have assured the public that the cause of the explosion will be established soon, and appropriate actions will follow based on the findings. Residents have been urged to remain calm and avoid the area as the investigation continues. Further updates on the identities of the injured and forensic findings are expected shortly.
