GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A man who broke into a Rockford home with plans to kill the entire family inside has entered a plea in his criminal case.

Ricardo Perez Castillo made a brief appearance on Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Kent County Circuit Court for a plea hearing.

Castillo, 25, was charged with attempted murder, first-degree home invasion, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, and carrying a weapon with unlawful intent in connection to his thwarted plot.

The home invasion unfolded in the morning hours on June 15, 2024, at a residence on Ella Terrace Court NE in Rockford.

Video surveillance obtained by Kent County sheriff’s deputies showed Castillo enter the home and undressed to only his underwear and T-shirt. Castillo then grabbed a knife from a kitchen drawer and walked up
