ALBANY, New York (WWNY) - The state has added Jefferson County to its list of areas under a drought warning in New York.
Governor Kathy Hochul and the state Department of Environmental Conservation announced on Wednesday that Jefferson and 9 other counties were upgraded from drought watch to warning.
A drought warning has been in effect in St. Lawrence and Lewis counties.
Under a drought warning, people are encouraged to conserve water by following these tips:
Water lawns only when necessary, choose watering methods that avoid waste, and water in the early morning to reduce evaporation and maximize soil hydration
Reuse water collected in rain barrels, dehumidifiers, or air conditioners to water plants
