Republican Jack Ciattarelli and Democrat Mikie Sherrill will square off Wednesday night in the second and final debate of their combative race to become New Jersey’s next governor.

The major-party candidates to take over for term-limited Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy will meet at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center in a one-hour debate broadcast live on ABC’s New York and Philadelphia TV stations.

It comes less than four weeks to Election Day, with polls showing a close contest. One recent survey showed Sherrill, a four-term member of the U.S. House, and Ciattarelli, a former state Assemblyman who lost to Murphy in the last governor’s race, in a dead heat . Others show Sherrill up by as much as 8 percentage points .
