CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — Wednesday marked the eighth of the government shutdown which means the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, commonly known as WIC benefits, may be in jeopardy for millions of Americans.
That’s not the case in Connecticut.
On Wednesday, Gov. Ned Lamont said he is committed to keeping women, infants, and children fed while the federal government is shutdown.
“If you’re a new mom, got kids under 5, an infant, we’re taking care of you," Lamont said. "The WIC program will continue. We’ll make sure it will continue until the federal government gets its act together."
The Governor made the announcement Wednesday morning during a press conference at the WIC Center in Hartford.
