OHIO. (WSAZ) - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has signed an executive order today, declaring a consumer product emergency for products that contain intoxicating hemp.
Under this order, all Ohio retailers must stop the sale of all intoxicating hemp products by October 14.
Governor DeWine says chemists have been manipulating legal non-intoxicating hemp plants to create intoxicating compounds, such as Delta-8 THC and Delta 9 THC also found in marijuana.
He says the intoxicating hemp products are not regulated like marijuana and are easy to get in the hands of unsuspecting people, such as children, and are often designed to look like products they often consume.
Once the order is active on October 14, authorities will have the ability to seize intoxicating hemp products still for sale.
