WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco police detective who struck an auto mechanic with his unmarked police vehicle in 2021 as the man tried to walk across Robinson Drive in the dark was not responsible for the man’s injuries, a McLennan County jury determined Wednesday.

Jurors in 170th State District Court deliberated 30 minutes before determining that Oneil Perez – not Waco police Detective Todd Rajkowski – was negligent and rejecting Perez’s request for almost $450,000 in damages.

Perez, 36, was not treated for his injuries at the scene and declined to be taken to the hospital by officers or an ambulance.
