WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Hundreds of local people, including students and their families, walked, biked or rolled to school on Oct. 8 as part of a national movement to promote safe transportation, getting active and community.

National Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day was held nationally at 2,700 locations in 46 states.

This year, and for the first time, that included Park Hill Elementary School in the Midway Independent School District.

Around 300 people gathered at the corners of Park Place & Richie Road and Pallasite Drive and Richie Road at 7 a.m. to travel to school together with some on foot, some on bikes, scooters and skateboards and others in wheelchairs.

Jennifer Weaver is the vice president of program with the Park Hill Elementary PTA which hosted the event.
