NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Air traffic controllers across the country are working without pay during the government shutdown, leading to widespread flight delays and cancellations as an already understaffed industry faces mounting pressure.

Jeanie Edwards watched nervously on Tuesday afternoon as flight after flight out of Nashville International Airport was either seriously delayed or cancelled.

“Yesterday I was feeling a little insecure over hearing about all the backups and everything,” Edwards said.

Her flight 16 hours later departed on time, but the underlying problem remains unresolved.
