DES MOINES, Iowa — Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed Executive Order 15, mandating state government departments in Iowa to use E-Verify and SAVE systems for verifying employment eligibility and immigration status before hiring or issuing licenses.

Reynolds emphasized the importance of verifying legal status following issues with the former superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools. Dr. Ian Roberts was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement last month and is now facing a federal weapons charge. "I am issuing Executive Order 15, putting safeguards in place that will verify the legal immigration or citizenship status for anyone requesting a state-issued professional license," Reynolds said.
