RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The texts are friendly, they seem to know a lot about the person, and the job offer is too good to be true.
For those who have received them here in Northern Nevada, they are not alone.
“Absolutely, I’ve received job scams,” says Paromita Pain, Ph.D at the Reynolds School of Journalism at University of Nevada Reno.
Pain’s research is designed to help people stay safer as they work through technology.
We checked the country numbers and found texts are coming from all over the world from places like Pakistan, South Africa and Turkey.
They target Nevadans for one very simple reason.
