PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A man accused of turning a dice game deadly in 2023 will be serving a 70-year sentence in prison.

In July, Ronnie Simmons was found guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon after Demetrious Davis was shot and killed in a botched robbery.

After the shooting, Simmons ran and was found in a nearby home. A handgun was found in that home, which had identical shell casings to the gun fired at the scene.

The shooting happened in July 2023 in the North Valley. After two people were taken to a nearby hospital, a witness described what happened to the responding officers.

Simmons was playing dice with two other men and had been losing a lot of money. He had to leave and return with more money to pay
