BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Alabama roads saw encouraging improvements in 2024, with crashes, injuries and fatalities all declining compared to the previous year, according to the latest crash report released this week by the Alabama Department of Transportation .

The state recorded 140,118 crashes in 2024, representing a 2.35% decrease from 2023. Those crashes resulted in more than 36,601 injuries and 967 fatalities.

Amanda Deem, coordinator for Drive Safe Alabama, attributes the improvements to three main factors: public education and awareness campaigns, increased law enforcement presence on roadways, and advancing safety features in newer vehicles.
