LIPSCOMB, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Lipscomb public safety chair spoke out after it was announced at a meeting Tuesday night that police officers in the city have resigned.

City leaders confirmed those resignations to WBRC.

Police Chief Tay Merritt told city council members and the mayor about this at that Tuesday night meeting.

City leaders said concerns about Lipscomb’s finances are what lead to the resignations.

Michelle Proctor is the public safety chair for the city. WBRC asked her what the city’s finances are like right now.

“To my knowledge, we’re out of money,” said Proctor. “We’re out of money. We need a way to pay for, some, a little more better leasing. But I don’t know how the incoming mayor is going to handle it.”
