EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Pratt & Whitney, an aircraft engine manufacturer headquartered in East Hartford, is celebrating 100 years in the skies.

According to the company's website, Pratt & Whitney was founded by Frederick B. Rentschler in 1925. The company's first engine, the R-1340 Wasp engine, is still in use 100 years later.

Headquartered on Main Street in East Hartford, Pratt & Whitney now has a manufacturing facility in Quebec as well.

"We are a global company," Pratt & Whitney President Shane Eddy said. "45,000 people now, 11,000 here in Connecticut."

The company hosted a 100-year celebration at the Pratt & Whitney Hangar Museum on Wednesday with elected officials including Governor Lamont, Congressman John Larson, State House Majority Leader Jason Rojas and East Hartford M
