FORT VALLEY, Ga. — Tyler Wainwright and his team at Lane Southern Orchards are shaking 5000 acres of pecan trees this season.

Wainwright is a farm manager at Lane's and says their harvest began October 1st, and is in full swing. He says people go nuts for their pecans.

"It's a great seller. It's a staple anywhere from the orchards out here to the chocolate candies in the, the retail area. Everywhere you go you see pecan orchards," Wainwright said.

But, how does Georgia's staple crop go from shell to shelf?

Wainwright says after the nuts hit the ground, a sweeper will collect the crop and sort out sticks and debris, before it's brought to a warehouse where they're dried.
