GLOBE, Ariz. — After deadly and devastating floods swept through Globe and Miami nearly two weeks ago, residents are once again bracing for the possibility of more heavy rain this week.

All day Wednesday, people in both communities lined up for sandbags. One of the busiest pickup spots was at Globe High School, where hundreds of students and staff volunteered to fill and hand them out.

“It makes it real when you know somebody that gets hurt,” said Globe High School student Reevis Cooper, whose friend was badly injured while trying to escape the flooding.

Now, Cooper is hoping to prevent others from facing the same danger.

“It goes to somebody—people we know personally—so it matters that much more.”
