Hundreds of Santa Feans who responded to a city survey asking residents how they feel about increasing the city minimum wage to $17.50 showed strong support for upping the rate.

City Community Development Director Elisa Montoya relayed the results of this survey — and two recent town hall meetings about the proposal — to the City Council at its Wednesday evening meeting. The civic engagement indicated broad support for the increase but also showed concerns about its impact on small businesses, Montoya said; across the board, Santa Feans agreed the current $15 per hour is not enough for living expenses.
