Geelong chief executive Steve Hocking concedes there “will be a time” that club officials need to sit down with Bailey Smith and address his headline-grabbing behaviour in the wake of several incidents during and after the season.

In his first season at the Cats after crossing from the Western Bulldogs, Smith has been fined multiple times for flipping the “bird”, sledged his old club and was forced to apologise for an aggressive outburst to a photographer.

Post the grand final loss to Brisbane, Smith was heavily criticised for social media posts on the club’s Mad Monday, accused even of being homophobic.

On Wednesday, AFLW star Darcy Vescio said all male players, including Smith, had to be more aware that their behaviour could “demean” people .
