**Massive Blaze Engulfs Poundland in Penge: 100 Firefighters Respond**

A significant fire has erupted at a Poundland store on High Street in Penge, south London, prompting a response from over 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines. The London Fire Brigade received the first emergency call at 4:30am on Thursday, reporting that a large portion of the ground floor was ablaze.

Fire crews are currently battling the inferno in the two-storey terraced shop. A spokesperson for the Brigade stated, "Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters have been called to a fire on High Street in Penge. Firefighters are tackling a fire in a two-storey terraced shop where a large part of the ground floor is alight."

To combat the flames, firefighters are utilising a 32-metre turntable ladder as a water tower, allowing them to extinguish the fire from above. Additionally, the Brigade's drone team is providing aerial support to the Incident Commander, enhancing situational awareness.

As a precaution, neighbouring properties have been evacuated, and residents in the vicinity are advised to keep their windows and doors shut due to heavy smoke. Traffic disruption is significant, with the High Street closed and diversions in place. Local authorities are urging people to avoid the area to alleviate congestion.

Images from the scene depict the dramatic flames consuming the building in the early hours, with more recent photos showing the aftermath as the fire is brought under control. However, black smoke continues to rise from the site.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations will commence once it is deemed safe. Fire crews from Beckenham, Forest Hill, Woodside, West Norwood, and other surrounding stations have been mobilised to assist in the operation.

Local bus routes, including 194 and 356, are facing major disruptions, leaving many commuters stranded. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as they work to manage the incident and ensure public safety.
