The Rhode Island Lottery and the state police have launched a crackdown on illegal gambling sites as new kinds of online betting proliferate on the internet.

In September, Attorney General Peter Neronha's office ordered the Rhode Island State Police to launch an investigation into online gambling sites at the request of state Department of Revenue, which oversees the Rhode Island Lottery.
