COLUMBIA — The Ferris wheels are spinning, the neon lights are buzzing and the deep fryers are running. The SC State Fair is here, and with it comes plenty of new deep fried, sugar coated, jumbo-sized foods.

We took a trip to the fairgrounds on opening day to try out a few new bites and classic favorites. Here’s what we thought.

Reuben Sandwich Pizza

The Reuben sandwich was easy to order and is a great fair food option at $9 a slice. Its looks great with pieces of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing spread out across the slice, but after the first bite you can tell that the dressing is the clear star. It seems to be used as the sauce for the pizza and while tasty, it was overpowering and made it hard to taste the saltiness of the corned beef that makes a R
