At 3AM, I finish another chapter and switch off the blaring bedroom light in the hope of falling back to sleep . Ten minutes pass and my head’s still spinning with to-do lists, project ideas and irritating earworms. So I meditate. With my mind and body slightly more relaxed, I’m fairly confident the Zs will make a comeback. But, no. After yet more rumination, the bright light goes back on and another chapter gets read. This time, I’ll probably manage to drift off. If not, there’s always the lullaby of podcasts and audio books.

This is my average night. Sometimes I fall asleep straight away and wake up three hours later, sometimes I’m tossing and turning for two or more hours before managing to get shut-eye. It’s been this way for years, probably peaking during a period when I’d taken on
