National Weather Service forecasters are warning of a freeze overnight in Massachusetts as temperatures plummet below normal averages for early October.

Parts of central, eastern, southeastern and western Massachusetts will all see sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 overnight Thursday. Along the coast, forecasters issued a Frost Advisory.

"Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," forecasters wrote.

The cold stretch comes as an area of high pressure drifts toward Massachusetts, eventually settling in overhead on Thursday night. After a rainy Wednesday, conditions are expected to stay dry through the end of the work week.
