The Macomb County Board of Commissioners very tentatively passed a tiny millage for 2026 Wednesday to raise $4 million from taxpayers to pay for new or refurbished elevators and a new heating-and-cooling system for the Martha T. Berry nursing home.
The measure for a one-time 0.1 mill levy, which cost the average household 83 cents, passed the Health and Human Services Committee in a narrow, 7-6 vote as some of the commissioners indicated they would rather pay for the expenditures through capital outlays, or possibly even dip into the general fund.
The board came to a consensus that it will provide the funding. The question is how.
