Opting for a cool fall afternoon instead of a sizzling summer evening, Danville broke step with nationwide counterparts to host its National Night Out movement Tuesday at different spots throughout the city.
The event is designed to bridge the gap between law enforcement agencies and residents to foster a greater sense of community spirit.
National Night Out — by tradition — is held on the first Tuesday in August. However, the Danville Police Department decided a few years ago that those sweltering days may not be the best to lure residents out for an evening.
”We’re down South where it’s really, really warm,” Pepper Travis, who works at the city’s 911 center and emcees numerous events, told attendees at Ballou Park on Tuesday afternoon.
”So somebody had a good idea and said, ‘let’s ju
