N.C. Rep. Cecil Brockman is facing pressure to resign from fellow Democrats and Republicans alike following his arrest on charges of indecent liberties with a child and statutory rape.

Republican House Speaker Destin Hall called on Brockman to step aside in a statement Wednesday morning.

“The charges against Rep. Brockman are shocking and extremely serious," Hall said. "Given the evidence that’s publicly known, he should resign immediately so these charges do not distract from the work of the North Carolina House.”
