A heated argument over etiquette at a shopping center in Dallas escalated, leaving a 41-year-old woman shot and killed, according to multiple reports.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 7, around 1 p.m. local time between the victim, Cecilia Simpson, and another woman, who police identified as Keona Hampton, KDFW and CBS News Texas reported.

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by the outlets, the dispute began after Simpson held the door open for Hampton as they were leaving a Five Below store, and Simpson got upset at the 22-year-old suspect for "not saying thank you."

When Simpson and her daughter entered a PetSmart in the same shopping center, the victim notified store employees that Hampton was following them, per the affidavit.

The argument ensued between both parties, and they were asked to leave the establishment, resulting in the dispute continuing in the parking lot, where Hampton is accused of throwing a bottle at Simpson's car, according to the outlets, citing the court document.

The confrontation between Simpson and Hampton then became physical, the document continued.

Victim pronounced dead at hospital

According to the local outlets, citing police documents, Hampton allegedly discharged a black and silver handgun and fired at Simpson three times.

The interaction was captured via surveillance and witness cellphone footage, which showed part of the argument and Hampton with the weapon, the affidavit says. Hampton was also seen fleeing the scene in a black vehicle, the document continued, per the outlets.

Simpson was taken to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Woman charged with murder

Hampton was taken into custody just before 8 p.m. local time after police carried out a traffic stop and found Hampton wearing the same outfit seen in the surveillance videos, KDFW and WFAA reported.

According to the reports, Hampton claimed to shoot at the victim to try "to get away from her." Dallas County Jail inmate records reviewed by USA TODAY show that she is facing a murder charge and does not currently have a bond.

USA TODAY contacted the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County Clerk's Office on Thursday, Oct. 9, but has not received a response.
