CHARLESTON, W.Va – The stakes for April’s University of Charleston Marathon just increased.
The university, along with the city of Charleston and the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau, announced Thursday that the marathon gained certified status with USA Track and Field, meaning that it serves as a qualifier for major races like the Boston, New York, and London Marathons.
University of Charleston President Marty Roth said part of planning the race included setting up a course that attracts runners.
“We wanted to make it a flat course so it would be a fast course. The faster the course, the more people that are going to want to come and, hopefully, be able to use their time at the University of Charleston Marathon to qualify and be able to run in a major marathon,” he said.
It’s
