Arturo Gatti Jr., the 17-year-old son of former boxing champion Arturo “Thunder” Gatti, has died in Mexico, similar to his father’s death in 2009.

Chuck Zito, a longtime friend and former bodyguard for Gatti Sr., broke the news Wednesday on Instagram , stating that he had died by suicide.

Zito wrote he was found the same way his father was found in a Brazil apartment 16 years ago. Gatti Jr. was just 10 months old when his father, whose death was confirmed as a suicide, died in 2009 at 37.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I have to say,.... R.I.P. to 17-year-old ARTURO GATTI JR.....” he wrote. “My condolences to Arturo Gatti Seniors - Mom, Sisters, Brothers, and his daughter Sophia.”

Mexican authorities have yet to publicly release a formal finding on the cause of death.
