Value of collapsed homes exceed $5M, NPS removes 140 truckloads of debris

Dare County has announced that its debris removal contractor will begin collecting storm debris in Buxton on Wednesday, Oct. 8, and will continue the following one to two days, if needed, as part of cleanup efforts following the recent offshore storms that caused the collapse of eight houses in Buxton. An additional home also collapsed in Rodanthe.

Dare County Manager Bobby Outten stated that the debris removal operation is being conducted on an expedited schedule due to the forecast for inclement weather conditions this weekend, which creates a sense of urgency to complete the cleanup before additional impacts occur.
