MANCHESTER, N.H. —

In a letter of resignation obtained by WMUR, Taylor Caswell, commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs, informed Gov. Kelly Ayotte that, for him, there is "no path forward" in the role.

WMUR-TV first reported on his resignation last Thursday.

"I am deeply grateful for the confidence and support you expressed in your nomination for me for a third term in July, as well as for the support that nomination has received from businesses across the State. However, there is no path forward, and I am writing to formally submit my resignation," Caswell wrote in the letter to Gov. Kelly Ayotte.

Caswell's resignation will be effective as of Friday, Oct. 17.
