SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Drought conditions continue to worsen in Central New York, with more areas transitioning to moderate drought stage.

This is according to the latest summary from the United States Drought Monitor, which accounts for the conditions through 8 a.m. on Oct. 7.

A Drought Warning from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation now includes Jefferson, Oswego, Wayne and parts of northern Cayuga counties. The rest of CNY remains in a Drought Watch.

According to the DEC, a drought watch means that voluntary conservation of water is requested.

In a drought warning, “voluntary water conservation is intensified, and public water supplies and industries are advised to update and implement local drought contingency plans,” the DEC says.
