A sick turtle found washed up on a southern suburbs beach amid South Australia's ongoing algal bloom is being rehabilitated at Adelaide Zoo, in what its finder says is a small sign of hope amid the destruction.

Late last month, Scott Hedges was doing his daily walk along the beach from Seaford to Moana with his children and family friends when they discovered what they believed was a dead sea turtle.

"The water this particular day was terrible from the bloom, and there was a huge amount of dead marine life washed up," Mr Hedges said.

"Just before reaching Moana, I spotted something that looked unusual against the seaweed. As I approached, I realised it was a young sea turtle, and I was sure it was dead like everything else.
