The head of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), Paul Brereton, has "consulted" for the inspector general of the Australian Defence Force on 11 occasions since becoming head of the federal integrity watchdog.

Inspector General of the ADF James Gaynor, was grilled about the arrangement at Senate Estimates on Thursday, in which he revealed Mr Brereton was providing "very limited but necessary" support and was privy to sensitive defence information.

"Since being appointed as the National Anti Corruption Commissioner, we have put queries to him on 11 occasions — 11 occasions since 1 July 2023," he said.
