A taste of fall is on the way.

Cooler temperatures, gusty winds and a chance of light rain and mountain snow are expected across western Nevada and the Sierra this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Southwest winds will strengthen through Friday, with gusts of 25 to 40 mph in valleys and up to 80 mph along Sierra ridges. Lake Wind Advisories are in effect for both Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Waves of 2 to 3 feet are possible, with choppy lake waters and hazardous boating conditions. Small watercraft will be especially prone to capsizing.
